Journey Pietro Giordano

- Exhibitions

I have always been very inspired by my surroundings and the continuous visual stimulation that it provides. From the earthy, raw landscapes of my birthplace, Sicily, to the vast and natural Australian environment and the diversity of its people.

The narrative of my current work comes from ideas and visions derived from the words "Journey - People, Place, and Time." These thoughts and images are real and unreal, abstract and figurative, past, present, and future. They may be tranquil or tempestuous, light or dark, timid or bold, perfect or imperfect.

These abstract sculptures and paintings depict the strong connection between the human entity, the diversity of the natural and urban landscapes, and the effects of time. This fusion creates ever-evolving and varied experiences that become part of a continuous journey.

Artist Bio:

Pietro Giordano was born in 1961 in Sicily, Italy. His family migrated to Tasmania in the late 60s. His upbringing of Mediterranean vitality and creativity mixed with a new lifestyle and culture allowed him to explore new creative ideas with total freedom of expression.

He completed his BFA at the School of Art, University of Tasmania, specializing in Ceramic Sculpture, Painting, and Drawing. After his studies, he moved to Melbourne to gain more exposure and impressions. On receiving a grant from the Crafts Board, Australia Council, he completed an 18-month residency at the Meat Market Craft Centre in Melbourne. This culminated in his first solo exhibition at Devise Gallery and blossomed into an independent studio practice.

Over the years, he has continued to work in various mediums, and his work is now featured in the Victoria State Craft Collection and is exhibited locally and interstate.
