Resident Artist Studio Vacancy

Current Studio Vacancies

As at October 2014, we have an exciting opportunity for an individual or group to rent a Resident Artist Studio at Gasworks Arts Park. The studio is in an original building on the perimeter of the park. The studio is a self contained, subdivided space (60sqm). The studio’s open days are held during the monthly Farmers Market and at other times to be advised. The studio is available to rent for all artists across all disciplines, including photographers, playwrights, set builders, jewellers and more.

Gasworks is a not-for-profit community arts centre located in Albert Park just three kilometres from the CBD, 300 metres from the beach and 400 metres to shops, cafes and the No. 1 tram on Victoria Avenue. Gasworks currently has 15 resident artists, two theatres, two gallery spaces, a cafe, and function and workshop spaces. The venue presents an annual program of festivals and events, including a monthly Farmers Market and a children’s school holiday program.

Features of the studio include

  • Based in the centre of a vibrant, established arts community.
  • A secure, stand alone building, with 24 hour access.
  • Some built in benches, shelves and a large sink with hot and cold water.
  • Concrete floors.
  • Good overhead lighting and lots of natural light.
  • Access to exhibition facilities and other facilities of Gasworks Arts Park.
  • Conditions that may be suitable for a creative partnership (photographers, writers etc).
  • Ample free parking around the park.

The studio is available until 30 June 2016, with the opportunity to apply for a further term which may be granted at the discretion of Gasworks Arts Park. Please note there is a 3 month probationary period.

Artists must also be prepared to contribute 30 voluntary hours per year to Gasworks’ public engagement program which includes, but is not limited to, studio open days, studio tours, educational talks, fundraising activities and events, classes, workshops and exhibitions.
