Once Upon A Story Festival

Let's Play at the Bottom of the Garden...!
Surrounded by gardens and open space, Gasworks is the perfect place to explore literacy and numeracy in all its forms. Once Upon A Story Festival features activities for families with kids aged from three to ten years old including author readings, craft sessions, theatre shows and storytelling throughout the day.
Now in its third year, this FREE one day event features an action packed program including theatre shows Josephine's Super Amazing Friend And Foe and In A Little Little House, authors Michael Wagner, Danny Katz, Mitch Vane, Bob Graham and Frances Watts. Full program details now available!
FESTIVAL PROGRAM
Gasworks Theatre
Starting times:
11.05am, 11.25, 11.45, 12.05pm In a Little Little House
A pocket-sized show for tiny children. Pocketfool Productions perform songs, stories and rhymes for zero to three year-olds in their uniquely warm and whimsical style. Duration: 15 minutes.
12.30pm Readings Short Story Competition
Hear the outcome of the annual Readings Short Story Competition, and join glowing parents to hear the winners read their work aloud.
1.30pm Josephine's Super Amazing Friend And Foe
Josephine’s imaginary friend Helmut is missing! Prime suspect: the Boogie Man. As closets everywhere creak open and imaginary friends vanish, Josephine sets off to save her beloved Helmut, and quite possibly, the world!
2.30pm ROTY Awards
The Children's Book Council of Australia (Victorian Branch) in partnership with The Age will award prizes for the 2007 ROTY (Review/Response of the Year) Award winners.

10am to 12 noon From Trash to Treasure activities by HIPPY
Let your imagination run wild! A fun activity that encourages children to use their imagination and make something wonderful from things you would normally throw away.
12.30pm to 3pm Frances Watts, author of Parsley Rabbit's Book about Books, will participate in activites based on this new book. Make carrot book marks!

1.30pm to 2pm Cartooning Workshop with Patrick - The Age

Every little girl dreams of being a flowergirl and one day Calypso's dream comes true. Author Sally-Ann Balharrie will read from her new book so everyone can share in the excitement and anticipation leading up to the big day.
12.30pm Jack's Little PartyAuthor and Illustrator Bob Graham
Bob Graham will participate in activities of drawing and reading relating to Jack's Little Party.

1pm Captain Cal by Jan Dallimore and Richard Morden
Captain Cal, space adventurer seeks justice, rights wrongs, fights evil and keeps our galaxy a better place to live in. He and his trusty crew board the mighty silver pig battle water-thieving Bloggs, fight robots, stop the littering Grots and join in the thrill of a great galaxy space race.
1.30pm Little Lunches and The Little Election by Danny Katz and Mitch Vane
Danny Katz and Mitch Vane are the award-winning duo who conspire to entertain thousands of children with their hilarious Little Lunch series, which was inspired by their daughter's tales in the playground.
Would you like to be Prime Minister? Join creators of the Little Lunch series Danny Katz and Mitch Vane as they celebrate their new book A Little Election. It is sure to be a campaign with a difference.
2pm Maxx Rumble by Michael Wagner, plus footy in the park following the reading
Michael Wagner is the fun-loving sports-mad author of the best-selling Maxx Rumble cricket and football series. Kids just love picking up the latest Maxx Rumble and seeing how Maxx and his brave and fearless team are faring in the local cricket or football team. Michael has also written the acclaimed novel Dog Wars.

A collaboration by Alison Lester and children from around the world. These wonderful paintings were inspired by Alison's descriptions on her blog of her Antartic adventure.

The Active Marquee
The Active Marquee features hands-on learning experiences, including:
- Lara from Premium Health will give first aid advice and demonstrate how children can apply first aid.
- Darren Roberts from Auslan Sign will give children an insight in to signing and show them a number of relevant Auslan signs including those about family, community, animal, transport, the alphabet and numbers!
- Robyn Crowe will take children through an example of her movement to music, having fun while coordinating moves to music.

Synthesise
The second of four large photo banners will be shown on the Pickles Street Wall. The images have been taken by students from ICPP (International College of Creative Arts), and celebrate people and passion in the City of Port Phillip.
