Gasworks Holiday Program

The Spring Gasworks Holiday Program runs Monday 22 September to Friday 3 October 2008.

This spring we have shows & presentations ranging from magic to live action and shadow puppetry to snakes and reptiles, and workshops both creative and physical. Hopefully there's something for everyone!

New at this holiday program:

Gasworks will hold BBQS on the Terrace on Tue 23 Sep, Wed 1 and Thu 2 Oct from 11.30am to 1pm. Buy a yummy sizzling sausage or veggie burger from $3.

Before booking please note the following:

  • Tickets to performances must be purchased for both adults and children attending; under 2s enter for free but are not allocated a seat. Workshops require tickets to be purchased only for participants.
  • For Garden Studio, Art & Craft Room and Park events please go straight to the venue on the day; for Theatre, Studio Theatre, Foyer and Dressing Room events please pick up tickets from the Box Office in the Foyer.
  • Adults are welcome to stay and watch workshops (space permitting), although they are encouraged to remain in classes for 5s and under, and encouraged to leave in classes for over 9s.
  • All materials are supplied at workshops.
  • Please book under the name of the paying adult, and there is limited availability, so book early!

The Water Show

Snake Busters

All ages

Join Australia’s best reptile handlers and learn about frogs, spiders and snakes that live in Australia. All venom is removed and handling will be possible - if you dare!

The Mermaids Daughter

Presented by Company Gongoma

With Shadow Puppet creation in the Foyer

Come on a musical journey into the world of shadow puppetry and West Africa. This story is about a young girl named Sia who is unable to walk. It is only when her mother takes her to the Maribu healer that Sia’s true identity is revealed.

Family Magic Show

Stop Motion Animation Workshops - SOLD OUT

Ages: 9 to 12 years

Are you a fan of Wallace and Grommit or Adam Elliott’s Harvie Krumpet and wonder how it’s done? Learn the techniques of stop motion animation over three days: develop an idea for a short film, make clay models, and then animate a sequence to make your own movie..

Kindermotion

Yoga Champs

Yoga is calming, fun and helps you to grow physically, emotionally and socially. Learn how to relax and focus in this introductory session where you might hiss like a snake in Cobra pose, or learn to balance on one foot while standing tall like trees.

Ribbon Dancing

Ages: 5 to 9 years

Swordfighting

Ages: Some sessions 4 to 8 years, others 4+

Nationally accredited coach, Chris Jones teaches the basic skills of fencing and sword fighting in an intensive class. Try it just for fun or use it as a springboard to take it up as a sport.

Act Out a Story

Mixed Media

Join Artist Kylie Forbes in a discussion of her current installation in the Angela Robarts-Bird Gallery at Gasworks, followed by an art session exploring mixed media techniques including found objects, sculpture and painting that are used in the exhibition.

3D Construction

Construct a town, robot, garden, or whatever you can think of out of boxes, paper, sticks, coloured cardboard and other treasures sourced from the depths of Millie's collection of precious found materials.

African Music & Song
