Seeing Flowers: Fine Art Flower Photography

Ruth Hellema

Why hurry over beautiful things? Why not linger and enjoy them?” Clara Schumann

‘Seeing Flowers’ is an invitation to share in Ruth’s experience of discovering ethereal beauty, elegance and intricacy in photographing flowers; an invitation to see the flowers as transformed through her artistic vision and the interaction of the subject with the camera lens.

Through the addition of elements of installation art, Ruth seeks to accentuate appreciation of the flowers and create a space exuding harmony and tranquility; an alternative garden setting for the enjoyment of the public.

Ruth began taking photos in 2006. Photography soon became her creative outlet: a space where life’s concerns and pressures melt away to leave the free spirit unshackled; a space grounded in the moment, where the only elements are herself, her camera and the subject. Their interplay is captured in her photos. Interplay marked by her perception of reality and the reality she seeks to create.

Ruth took part in a joint exhibition in 2016, ‘Latent Images of Spain’, and exhibited in the 2017 CCP (Centre for Contemporary Photography) Salon and the Melbourne Camera Club’s 2018 International Women’s Day Exhibition. ‘Seeing Flowers’ is her first solo exhibition.
