Jude Perl and the Saga of Sugarhope Records

★★★★★ One of the most genuine, honest feeling performers going around’” – Theatre People

Jude Perl did what every inoffensive uplifting movie from the 80s told her to do. She followed her dreams. She knew the road wouldn’t be easy. She knew there would be sacrifices. And she was happy to make them.

The ends justifies the means. Right? “Ends” being becoming a successful pop star with artistic integrity, “means” being working as a jingle writer for a sugar company turned record label.

Jude has been working at SugarHope records for 5 years, writing advertisements for their assortment of Junk food products, Under the guise that head of A&R, Luketha Ross, will eventually release her “serious” music. But as time progresses,
and Jude’s career doesn’t, she starts questioning whether she can keep justifying creating music for evil purposes, the exact opposite of what she set out to do when she decided to “follow her dreams”.

Set somewhere between 1991 and present day, this story chronicles the beginning of the end for the music industry, how the coked up rockstars of the world had to start endorsing addictive soda and poorly made sneakers in order to pay the bills, and how the line between making art that is good for the world and contributing to something that keeps humanity unconscious, is very very blurred.

The ends justifies the means.
