Creative Movers – Creative Dance Classes for Kids

Presented By: Kylie Maltarollo
Dates: Term 1 (Commences 6 Feb)
Time: Various times – see above
Duration: 10 week term
Venue: Garden Studio
Price: $140 for a ten week term ($14 per class)
Bookings: Kylie 0423 982 915 or creativemovers@optusnet.com.au
Creative dance allows children to express themselves artistically through the mastery of movement. Each class is structured to teach children the concepts of dance to help build confidence, self and sensory awareness, improved concentrations, cognitive skills and body control. Children also explore their senses through sensory play, both individually and within group work.
The classes are structured according to the particular dance concept that we are focusing on. For example, the lesson may have a focus on space and time or the body and form. After our investigations and dance play we will finish off with relaxation time.
Children become ‘creative movers’ when they are given the freedom of interpretation and expression through dance.
All children are welcome.
Class Times:
18 months – 3 years: 11:10am to 11:55am (parents and children)
18 months –5 years: 12:00 midday to 12:45pm (this class is designed for parents who have a child under 3 and an older child and wish to have them together. Parents will need to attend this class. This class has consideration for parents with special circumstances)
3 years – 4 years: 1:00pm to 1:45pm
4 years – 5 years: 2:00pm – 2:45pm
1 free trial class is offered to new students at the beginning of each term. A trial after the first week of term will cost $14
About the Teacher: Kylie Maltarollo
After graduating from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 1992, Kylie worked extensively as a modern dancer, teacher and choreographer. Following 10 years dancing overseas in many dance companies, she returned to Australia and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Choreography. Kylie works as a teaching artist for the Arts Centre, teaching workshops in creative dance to students of all ages and their teachers; to help them use dance in the classroom curriculum. She was also an assistant choreographer for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
Creative Movers came about from my concern with the lack of children’s dance classes that focus on the child’s own freedom of movement and self expression. Most other dance classes offered to children are highly structured in developing a specific technique. Being a Mother of two beautiful young girls, and watching how intuitively they dance, further emphasized my desire to establish Creative Movers. – Kylie Maltarollo
