Tricia Sabey is a visual artist whose work reflects her interest in the abstract qualities of the land and the sea in relation to the horizon. Tricia's work explores the psychological, emotional and visual space through the
ever changing patterns of colour, form and texture.
Tricia is drawn to the qualities of timber; the touch, smell and grain. She uses plywood because it is
light and versatile and paints on strips of plywood of varying sizes. She then makes up
compositions by a form of patterning and further cutting.
Using colour intuitively, Tricia often rubs timber back to reveal its grain. Each piece is a
discrete land or seascape on its own. It then becomes part of a large abstracted work.
The smaller works have been composed from the off-cuts of the larger works. They reflect her
interest in the tradition of ‘assemblage’ and ‘re-using objects’
Tricia is the winner of the two-dimensional art category at the Williamstown Tattersall’s Contemporary Art Awards 2005.
