Man, Dog, Boat by Henry Smith (1995)
Fibreglass, wood, stainless steel, aluminium.
Sculpture of a man and dog in a small boat mounted on a wooden pole. Whilst the boat appears to be made from a light-coloured wood, it is in fact made of fibreglass, then painted a yellow ochre with strokes of blue and red. The dog sits in the boat’s bow, and its forelegs rest on the boat’s top edge. The man is seated in the boat’s stern, reaching forward with oars in his hands, in the act of rowing. The boat is angled in an east-west direction.
